A chilling portrait of the toxic culture which allowed the clergy sexual abuse crisis to flourish. Can we laity do anything to combat this culture to produce lasting reform? YES. Keep reading.

A practical action guide for laity to get involved in the battle for the soul of our diocese.

Author, Jennifer Kane, met seminarian Ryszard Biernat in 2006 while he served at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels in Olean, NY. He confided to her at the time that he had been sexually molested by a diocesan priest two years earlier, and the diocese still had not done anything about his abuser and did not report the allegation to authorities. Worse, he said a diocesan bishop threatened him against reporting his allegation to anyone. That bothered her, as it would you. Keep reading to see what she learned over the years about this particular case and what YOU can do about this culture of obsequious deference to our bishops that helped shield institutional toleration of clergy sexual abuse.
